Was held in Fiorano first shake-down of Ferrari P500 Superfast opened, a single car built for a customer. The car is the second created within the program Ferrari SP stands for special projects, designed to meet the demands of discerning collectors and customers to create unique templates. It was built on the basis of the 599 GTB Fiorano and takes inspiration from a spider by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi Ferrari designed and built specifically for the movie ‘ Toby Dammit ‘ directed by Federico Fellini in 1968 and, in turn, inspired by one of the extraordinary stories of Edgar Allan Poe
The creator of P500 Superfast open, as well as the new owner is Edward Walson, son of John Walson, the inventor of cable TV. In 2008 he made contact with Ferrari to produce a modern reinterpretation of the car, painted gold, of the film. “I had always dreamed of designing sports cars and seeing this movie came to spontaneous decision: one day I would have created the ‘ my ‘ Ferrari.”
Consistent with all one-off projects of Special Projects, the P500 Superfast Aperta has been developed with the same design rigour applied to all Ferrari and is regularly homologated for use on the road. The customer was involved in every stage of development of the car, designed by Pininfarina and built in Maranello, the definition of the concept to construction. The 599 GTB Fiorano, used as a base, a coupe, it was necessary to reinforce the chassis in the transition from closed car spider, restricting weight gain only 20 kg through the use of carbon fibre and working to enhance the body with the use of structural analysis. From initial sketches to the car style full view on the track only 14 months have passed.
